Eek-A-Mouse, born Ripton Hilton, is a unique artist you’ll never forget once you hear his voice. He broke through in 1979 with his first single “Once a Virgin”, immediately standing out with his high, nasal tone and playful “biddy beng-beng” vocal style. His music is cheerful, original, and full of strong melodies. Although he’s often seen as a DJ, his style is better described as a blend of singing and talking — a true singjay.

In the 1980s and 90s, Eek A Mouse gained worldwide recognition with albums like Eek-A-Nomics and U-Neek. He scored hits such as “The Freak” and “You Are The One I Need”, and even released a reggae version of a Led Zeppelin song. Eek-A-Mouse has also collaborated with other artists, including P.O.D. on their rock-reggae track “Ridiculous” and the ska-punk band OPM on “Perfect Day”.

Beyond music, he also appeared in films, including the 1991 crime classic New Jack City, where he acted alongside Wesley Snipes and Chris Rock. Despite his bizarre, humorous, and wildly original style, he has remained somewhat of a cult figure. But live, he’s unforgettable — especially with riddim legends Mafia & Fluxy at his side.
