Groundation – the Next Generation is coming to 013 in Tilburg. Since 1998, this band have been building their own place within roots reggae. The California-based band led by singer/songwriter Harrison Stafford blends deep reggae grooves with jazz harmonies, dub space, and a live approach in which the band often expands into improvisation. In the Netherlands, Groundation have been a staple for years with a strong live reputation. Most recently proven by a sold-out show in Haarlem.
The early albums Young Tree and Each One Teach One set the tone, followed by Hebron Gate (2002). This album marked their breakthrough and put Groundation on the international map with their progressive roots sound. In 2018, after the departure of several founding members, Stafford reformed the band with musicians who, like him, share a background at Sonoma State University in California.
After more than two decades and a long run of studio albums, Candle Burning was released earlier this year as the next chapter: fully recorded analog, with great attention to detail and sound. For this album, Groundation entered ICP Studio in Brussels. In March 2026, a new live album will also be released. A must-see night for reggae fans, featuring new material you can experience up close at 013.
