On September 6, Rootsriders are bringing a smashing Henny Vrienten tribute to EM2! Frontman of Doe Maar, the band that introduced reggae to countless Dutch households. In this show, Henny Vrienten is brought to life by Tjerk Schoonheim, who does so with great conviction and passion. Come and experience the sound of the Dutch 80s one more time at EM2.

The signature Doe Maar mix of ska, punk, and reggae is still a go-to in clubs to get a crowd moving. Songs like De Bom, which wraps a serious subject in a paradoxical — and very welcome — danceable package. Then there’s Smoorverliefd, an irresistible sing-along whose bassline alone is enough to get your hips swaying. The Doe Maar catalogue is full of recognizable hits, making it perfect for one last all-out party, even 40 years later.

To celebrate this pioneer of the Dutch pop scene, Rootsriders will bring a final musical salute in September to the late Doe Maar frontman Henny Vrienten. Above all, to honor his role in popularizing and gaining recognition for reggae music in the Netherlands. But of course, also as a farewell to a youth hero, since the members of Rootsriders themselves grew up with his timeless songs. For this one-off short tour, former band member Tjerk Schoonheim returns as guest vocalist.

Rootsriders have already nearly sold out the small hall at Oosterpoort with this show. Due to popular demand, Rootsriders will tour Dutch pop venues once more in September 2025 together with Tjerk Schoonheim, bringing their Reggae Salute to Henny Vrienten!
