At the age of seven, Rootman J began making music in the mountains of West Africa, where he was born. As a multi-instrumentalist, he dreamed of exploring the world, which eventually led him to Belgium. After several years there, he founded the Zionyouth Crew, a band that has since travelled across the globe and performed on stages at major international festivals.
Inspired by reggae legends such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear, Rootman J also draws musical influence from artists like The Beatles, Bob Dylan, James Brown and Ray Charles. Known for spreading powerful positive energy through both music and activism, Rootman J is deeply involved in projects across Africa focused on children’s education, women’s empowerment and equality. His mission goes far beyond music — bringing people together through peace, love and harmony.
Together with the Zionyouth Crew, Rootman J has performed across Africa, Europe, the United States and beyond, appearing at renowned festivals including Couleur Café, Reggae Geel, Pukkelpop, Reggae Jam and Reggae on the River in California. Over the years, he has collaborated with and shared stages alongside major international artists including The Marley Family, Femi Kuti, Steel Pulse, Alpha Blondy, Snoop Dogg and Shaggy.
More than just a reggae band, Rootman J & The Zionyouth Crew actively support the construction of a school in Togo, Africa.
“We believe that basic education and food are essential for every child.”
During their live performances, audiences can experience the band’s uplifting sound, groovy harmonies and sunny melodies — creating an atmosphere filled with energy, unity and conscious vibes.
