Congos & The Gladiators are coming to SPOT / Oosterpoort in Groningen. The Congos are a roots reggae group from Jamaica. The trio formed in the 70s and is one of the few reggae groups that still travels the world in the original formation. When they enter the stage, you immediately feel the unity and powerful cohesion of the Rastafarians. The band rose to fame with the legendary album Heart of the Congos. This album was recorded at Lee “Scratch” Perry’s legendary Black Ark studio. It features reggae roots gems that honor their vocal achievements. Now, years later, they are back in the studio to record. To a new album that will be released in the spring of 2024.

Following the rise and fall of many reggae artists and bands, The Gladiators remain one of the most influential reggae groups to date. After forming the band in the early 70’s. The Gladiators made a name for themselves with their most successful albums Trenchtown Mix Up (1976) and Proverbial Reggae (1978). Since that time, the band has toured continuously. In 2004, frontman Albert Griffiths took a well-deserved retirement, handing over the leadership of The Gladiators to his son Al upon the release of the album Father and Sons, while his other son, Anthony, had been drumming in the band since 1997.
