A decade after her debut as a reggae artist, she is now a recognized and respected figure in her home country of Jamaica and known worldwide.

As a young talent, she moved to the United States for more opportunities and briefly pursued a pop music career before rediscovering her roots as an adult and adopting the name Etana, which means “The Strong One” in Swahili. Returning home sparked the evolution of her sound, which shines through in her work, a fusion of folk, soul, jazz, and reggae. Etana draws inspiration from artists like Marcia Griffiths, Etta James, and Miriam Makeba to create a deeply emotional sound, embodying their influence in a modern way.
