With a career spanning more than five decades, Jamaican reggae singer Burning Spear (born Winston Rodney) is regarded as one of the most influential artists in roots reggae. He achieved international recognition in 1973 with his third album, Marcus Garvey, his first release on the legendary Island Records label, which also helped launch the careers of Bob Marley and Toots and the Maytals. In the early 1980s, he cemented his legacy with the acclaimed album Hail H.I.M., featuring classics such as Columbus and African Teacher.
