Akae Beka or Vaughn Benjamin was a prolific and enigmatic figure in the world of reggae music. He was the lead singer and lyricist for the reggae band Midnite, which he co-founded with his brother Ron Benjamin in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, in the late 1980s. Benjamin’s musical universe was characterized by profound spiritual depth, intricate wordplay, and a unique blend of reggae, dub, roots, and other musical influences.

Benjamin’s lyrics were deeply philosophical, drawing on Rastafarian beliefs, African spirituality, and social commentary. He explored themes such as spirituality, the struggles of everyday life, social injustice, and the quest for inner peace and liberation.
