Hennessy Fyah
A female dancehall artist, also known as “Di Queen of Fire.” She has an exceptional talent for singing and “deejaying” in Jamaican style. She’s passionate and loves to throw a party Jamaican dancehall style. A true “Dancehall Queen.”
In Germany, dancehall is very popular, and Hennessy Fyah performs there regularly. “Bremen, Hanover, Dortmund, Jamaica — Hennessy Fyah has already performed in all these places.” She says, “I was actually pushed into it by other artists in reggae and dancehall.” She has collaborated with artists like Bounty Killer, Richie Loop, Anthony B, and DJ Moortje.
Hennessy Fyah & The Lions Den Band play original reggae dancehall music from Leeuwarden. They’ve performed on various stages and radio shows, including: Het Bolwerk, opening act for Eek-A-Mouse in Sneek, and the Noardewyn music program with Willem Waldpyk on Omrop Fryslân, among others. DJ Moortje
For regular visitors of bubbling parties, DJ Moortje is no stranger. The Dutchman of Antillean descent is not only one of the most in-demand and praised bubbling DJs, but he’s also one of the pioneers who introduced this new music style to Dutch dance floors.
“When I came to the Netherlands in 1988, everyone wanted to book me. Other DJs used to talk a lot between records. I mixed the tracks much tougher and with more feeling. My way of spinning isn’t planned — I never have to rehearse how I’m going to build a set,” says Moortje before a show at Club Pacha on Oudezijds Voorburgwal.
According to the DJ, this style was quickly imitated. With visible frustration, he continues:
“I was the first one to play the track ‘I Like to Move It’ not at 33, but at 45 RPM. Now everyone plays it at 45. I also once worked with a DJ who stood behind me the whole night, didn’t dance, just watched how I mixed. The next time, he played exactly the same set as me — same tracks, same mixes.
There are some pretty good bubbling DJs, but they haven’t developed their own style yet. Almost all of them imitate me. Honestly, there’s really only one bubbling DJ — and that’s me.” (Huize Maas)
