Steel Pulse is one of the world’s most influential reggae bands and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026, including a special performance in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Founded in 1975 in Birmingham, England, by David “Dread” Hinds and Selwyn Brown, the band grew into a global icon of socially conscious music. Their breakthrough came with the acclaimed album Handsworth Revolution, followed by tours alongside punk bands as well as reggae legends such as Burning Spear and Bob Marley.

During the 1980s, Steel Pulse expanded its international success with the album True Democracy and won a Grammy Award in 1986 for Babylon the Bandit. Their music blends authentic roots reggae with a variety of musical influences while delivering powerful messages of social justice, equality, and anti-racism.
