The Slackers are coming to Melkweg in Amsterdam. These New York veterans have been mixing ska, reggae, and rock ‘n’ roll since the early ’90s, and they have won over the Melkweg multiple times. The Slackers’ sound is deeply rooted in the music of legendary Jamaican bands like The Skatalites and The Upsetters, while also drawing heavily from American retro sounds like blues, soul, and rock. Lyrically.
The Slackers are highly politically engaged, but they always manage to turn their live shows into a fun and festive experience. In 2022, they released their 15th album, “Don’t Let the Sunlight Fool Ya,” and later this year, they will release a 20th-anniversary edition of their album “Close My Eyes.”
Support comes from The Utopians, an early reggae band from French-speaking Belgium. Featuring members of The Moon Invaders and Caroloregians, along with Congolese-Belgian singer Nicolas N’Sakala, they turn every show into a party. The Utopians are supported by Liveurope, the first European initiative that helps concert venues promote emerging musical talent from across Europe.
