Jah Cure sentenced to over 8 years in prison for attempted murder in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands — Jamaican reggae artist Jah Cure has been sentenced to eight years and four months in prison by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal for the attempted murder of a concert promoter in 2021. The court ruled that the 47-year-old singer, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, acted with premeditation when he stabbed the victim during a confrontation on Dam Square in October 2021.

The new sentence increases the six-year prison term previously imposed by a lower court in 2022 for attempted manslaughter. Judges determined that additional evidence proved Jah Cure had planned the attack in advance. According to the court, the stabbing followed a dispute over payment for a performance in Amsterdam. Jah Cure reportedly waited for the 45-year-old promoter at the city’s central square before stabbing him in the abdomen without warning.

New information presented during the appeal included voice messages the artist sent to a friend prior to the incident. In those messages, he allegedly stated his intention to meet the promoter at the Dam. He also admitted to carrying a knife. The court concluded that these recordings showed a deliberate and calculated decision to commit the crime. The conclusion lead to a harsher sentence. Despite his legal troubles, Jah Cure released a new studio album titled ‘Undeniable’. The album is showcasing his signature blend of soulful reggae and heartfelt lyrics.
