Sizzla 1st headliner for Sun Splash Reggae Festival in The Hague

SunSplash proudly present the biggest Sun Splash Reggae Outdoor Festival edition on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at their brand new location: Zuiderpark – The Hague!  Get ready to be moved by soulful tunes and infectious rhythms that will elevate the reggae experience to new heights.  The first of many names for this event is Sizzla Kalonji. It is a long time ago Sizzla performed in the Netherlands. Stay tuned for more electrifying announcements as we unveil our artists who will perform at Sun Splash. This day promises to be a celebration of unity, good vibes, and the true spirit of reggae.

Sizzla Kalonji, born Miguel Orlando Collins on April 17, 1976, is a Jamaican reggae musician. He is one of the prominent figures in the contemporary reggae and dancehall scenes. Hailing from August Town, Kingston, Jamaica, Sizzla is known for his distinctive voice. Socially conscious lyrics, and prolific output, having released numerous albums and singles throughout his career.

Succesful albums

Sizzla rose to prominence in the late 1990s with a string of successful albums, including “Black Woman & Child” (1997) and “Da Real Thing” (2002). His music often addresses issues such as spirituality, Rastafarianism, social injustice, and love. Sizzla’s style blends traditional roots reggae with dancehall influences, creating a sound that resonates with a wide audience.

While Sizzla has achieved international recognition and acclaim, he has also faced controversy due to some of his lyrics that have been perceived as homophobic. This has led to protests and cancellations of his performances in various countries. Despite the controversy, Sizzla remains a influential figure in the reggae genre, continuing to release music and maintain a loyal fan base.
