LINVAL THOMPSON BIO
Linval Thompson is a Jamaican reggae artist and producer whose career has left an indelible mark on the genre. Born on October 12, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica, Thompson emerged during the golden era of reggae in the 1970s and has since become a respected figure in the music industry.
Known for his distinctive voice and conscious lyrics, Linval Thompson’s contributions to reggae encompass a wide range of themes, from social commentary to love and spirituality. His early exposure to the vibrant Jamaican music scene, rooted in ska and rocksteady, laid the foundation for his later success in the reggae genre.
Thompson’s breakthrough came with his debut album, “Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks,” released in 1976. The title track became an anthem, reflecting the Rastafarian influence on his music. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he continued to produce a string of successful albums, such as “I Love Marijuana” and “Follow My Heart.”
In addition to his prowess as a vocalist, Linval Thompson has made significant contributions as a producer.
