Slacknote plays an AmpFreQQ set of his own heavyweight dubs, Roots and Dub Attic, Rotterdam ▶ Biography Robert Burgers played bass as a teenager, but fed up with all the faffing about in bands, he started producing as Slacknote in the early 90s. He soon gained some recognition when a selection of his tracks became ‘Demo of the Month’ in Future Music magazine. Over the years, Robert released drum ‘n bass, IDM and breakcore and remixed other artists. He collaborated with DJ Hidden on a tune called “Where’s the Score” and together they started IDM label ‘Notochord’ and released two critically acclaimed CDs.
Production was put on the back burner when Robert moved abroad for work in 2007 and did an MBA. He revived the Slacknote moniker in 2020 to focus on the very style that made him pick up the bass all those years ago: dub. He built a new studio with an analogue mixing desk and outboard effects and started incorporating real instruments and vocals when Dubcreator became his mentor. ▶ Fun Facts ● Robert has lived in Dublin and Dubai and now lives close to Duba in Saudi Arabia. ● His son Ian, who is his biggest fan, lives in Dublin. ● The 2024 Kill Safari re-remix of ‘Where’s the Score’, has clocked up more than 93k streams on Spotify to date.
