Kabaka Pyramid, born Keron Salmon, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist. He is known for blending traditional roots reggae with conscious lyricism and hip-hop influences. His name, “Kabaka,” references Ugandan kings, symbolizing leadership and empowerment. Emerging in the early 2010s, Kabaka is part of Jamaica’s “Reggae Revival” movement. This movement seeks to revitalize the genre’s social and spiritual roots.

His music is marked by sharp, insightful lyrics addressing issues like political corruption, social justice, and Rastafarian principles. Kabaka Pyramid gained international recognition with tracks like “Well Done” and his debut album Kontraband (2018), produced by Damian Marley. The album was widely praised for its fusion of reggae and hip-hop, and its thought-provoking content. In 2023, he won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for The Kalling, further cementing his status as one of contemporary reggae’s leading voices.
