In the mid-1950s, a new style of music emerged in Jamaica. Mento, Calypso and African rhythms were mixed with new, Western music (rock ’n roll, boogie-woogie) and this resulted in the most swinging music the world had ever heard: ska!

Only one band can still interpret this history in person: The Skatalites, who have been around for 60 years, can be seen on October 23 in Burgerweeshuis!
