Two legendary names from Jamaican roots reggae will come together in Groningen this autumn. Culture featuring Kenyatta Hill and Cedric Myton of The Congos will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort on Monday, October 26, 2026, for a special night celebrating some of the most influential music in reggae history. The concert takes place in the Kleine Zaal at De Oosterpoort and starts at 20:30.

Kenyatta Hill Carries the Culture Legacy

Culture hold a special place in the history of roots reggae. Formed in Jamaica during the 1970s and originally fronted by the late Joseph Hill, the group became internationally renowned for its powerful harmonies, spiritual messages and socially conscious lyrics. Their 1977 classic “Two Sevens Clash” became one of the defining recordings of the roots reggae era and helped establish Culture as one of Jamaica’s most important vocal groups.

Following Joseph Hill’s passing in 2006, his son Kenyatta Hill stepped forward to continue his father’s musical legacy. Today, Kenyatta keeps the spirit and music of Culture alive on stages around the world. Introducing these timeless songs to new generations while preserving the unmistakable sound that made the group famous.

The Iconic Voice of The Congos

Sharing the evening will be Cedric Myton. This legend is best known as the unmistakable falsetto voice of legendary Jamaican vocal group The Congos. The Congos’ classic album Heart of the Congos, produced by reggae pioneer Lee “Scratch” Perry, remains one of the landmark recordings of roots reggae. Myton’s extraordinary high-register vocals became a defining part of the group’s sound and made songs such as “Fisherman” enduring favourites among reggae fans around the world.
