The documentary makers Noël Dernesch and Moritz Springer accompany the famous reggae stars Gentleman and Alborosie on a journey to Jamaica. This little island is the birthplace and home of reggae and Rastafari. Far from the myths and the so-called tourist paradise, they are confronted with various representatives from the local music scene. Together with them, search for the origins of the Rastafari movement.
“Gentleman,” whose real name is Tilmann Otto, comes from Cologne and is one of the most successful white reggae artists. Journey to Jah follows him and Italian superstar Alborosie on a journey to the land where their music originates. To the roots of the Rastafari culture: Jamaica. We follow her daily life between the streets of Kingston’s ghettos and the Berlin club scene. We also encounter Richie Stephens, Damian Marley, and reggae legend Jack Radics.

Gentleman, born Tilmann Otto on April 19, 1974, in Osnabrück, Germany, is a prominent figure in the international reggae scene. His passion for reggae ignited at 17 during his first visit to Jamaica, where he immersed himself in the island’s rich musical and cultural heritage. This experience profoundly influenced his artistic direction, leading him to blend traditional reggae rhythms with elements of hip-hop and R&B.
Gentleman’s musical journey commenced in the late 1990s, with his debut album Trodin On released in 1999. He gained significant acclaim with subsequent albums like Journey to Jah (2002) and Confidence (2004), the latter reaching number one on the German album charts. His collaborations span a diverse array of artists, including Ky-Mani Marley, Alborosie, and Richie Stephens, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the genre.
