Jamaican reggae and dancehall legend Sister Nancy is coming to Amsterdam! On Friday, September 25, 2026, the pioneering artist will take the stage at Skatecafe, bringing one of the most recognizable voices in Jamaican music to the Dutch capital.
Sister Nancy holds a special place in reggae and dancehall history. Born Ophlin Russell in Kingston, Jamaica, she emerged during the late 1970s and early 1980s and became widely recognized as one of Jamaica’s first major female dancehall DJs. At a time when the sound system scene was overwhelmingly dominated by men, Sister Nancy established herself with her unmistakable voice, confident delivery and powerful stage presence.
Her name will forever be connected to the timeless anthem “Bam Bam.” Originally released on her classic 1982 album One, Two, the track grew far beyond Jamaica to become one of the most recognizable and influential reggae and dancehall recordings of all time.
Decades after its release, “Bam Bam” continues to reach new generations and has been sampled and referenced by numerous major international artists. Sister Nancy’s influence can still be heard throughout reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and contemporary popular music.
Now Amsterdam gets the opportunity to experience the legendary Jamaican artist live.
The show takes place at Skatecafe Amsterdam on Friday, September 25, with Skankin Sweet also on the bill. Following the live performance, the night continues with a club session, which is included with admission to the Sister Nancy show.
