Marley saga leads the opening of Rototom Sunsplash reunion edition

The international reggae festival Rototom Sunsplash roars again. The planet Rototom is already orbiting over Benicàssim to begin a 7-day journey. From the 16th to the 22nd of August. Which will be piloted by two exponents of the Marley saga. The sons of Bob Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and Julian Marley, on the Main Stage and the Reggae University, respectively. Both of them reflect the contemporary reggae scene in an edition with a marked roots vibe. A vibe that, nevertheless, does not renounce proudly displaying its diverse rhythmic range, a hallmark of the festival’s identity. Read all about this Rototom Sunsplash reunion edition.

Opening

The first, Damian Marley, with four Grammy awards to his name, will revolutionise the Main Stage in an evening that embodies the aforementioned variety of genres. The Skatalites, with a new generation of virtuoso musicians at the head of a line-up that maintains the original name of the top ska emitters of the early 60s, will open Rototom Sunsplash 2022, musically speaking.

Natiruts, the driving force behind modern reggae and a mass phenomenon in Brazil, will also contribute to this diversity of sound. The fusion of reggae, dancehall and Afrobeats of Surinamese artist SamoraTiwony, exponent of the French reggae and dancehall scene and the reggae, dancehall and Latin music band Memoria, based in Cologne, will also vibrate on this first evening on the Lion Stage, whose programme will be opened by the Aragonese reggae band Jashta, the first homegrown act of this year’s Rototom Sunsplash.

African Music

The activity will shake up the other stages of the venue on this opening day, from Jumping to Dancehall or the Dub Academy, and will also reach the new incorporation of this 2022: Vodoo Club, a dance club that emerges in Jamkunda – the reformulated African Village – and to which the collective of the same name, Voodoo, promoter of Afrobeats, and by extension of African music and also of the continent’s avant-garde culture, brings the rhythm. Manga Rosa and Rishi Malik + Sanasesh will be the stars of Voodoo Club’s first session for Rototom Sunsplash.

Daytime Cultural Agenda

The daytime cultural agenda of the festival will be on the move. From early afternoon with the proposals brought by the different areas.
