Protoje meets Tippy I Grade for a serie of Soundsystem Sessions

Protoje is back in Haarlem for a Dub Session together with Tippy I. They will explore Protoje’s latest album In Search of Zion and present new versions of his classic hits. On Tuesday, November 5th, they’ll bring an intimate and surprising Jamaican-style show to Patronaat.

Protoje is a prominent Jamaican reggae artist, known for revitalizing modern roots reggae. His real name is Oje Ken Ollivierre, and he was born in 1981. Protoje gained global recognition with his debut album The Seven Year Itch in 2011. He is a key figure in the reggae revival movement, blending traditional reggae with elements of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. His breakout single “Who Knows,” featuring Chronixx, became an international hit.

Protoje’s music often explores social issues, spirituality, and personal growth. He’s released multiple acclaimed albums, including Ancient Future and In Search of Lost Time. His innovative approach has made him a leader in contemporary reggae, earning Grammy nominations and global tours. Protoje also heads his own label, In.Digg.Nation Collective, supporting emerging Jamaican talent.

Tippy I, born Laurent “Tippy” Alfred, is a renowned musician, producer, and sound engineer from the U.S. Virgin Islands. He co-founded I Grade Records, a label focused on roots reggae. Tippy I is known for his deep, spiritual productions blending traditional reggae with dub, jazz, and African influences.

He’s worked with top artists like Akae Beka (formerly Midnite), Pressure Busspipe, and Protoje. His sound system, I Grade Dub, brings authentic roots reggae experiences to audiences worldwide. Tippy I’s work emphasizes cultural awareness and Rastafarian themes. He’s a key figure in the modern roots reggae movement, helping to shape the sound of conscious reggae over the past two decades.
