Eek-A-Mouse is coming to Burgerweeshuis in Deventer next januari! Eek-A-Mouse is one of the biggest reggae and dancehall artists in the world. He has been around for over 40 years now and has released big hits such as ‘Ganja Smuggling’, ‘Wa-Do-Dem’ and ‘Rude Boy Jamaican’ and is praised for his innovative vocal skills. He was one of the pioneers of ‘singjaying’: melodic singing.

Eek-A-Mouse, born Ripton Hylton in 1957, is a pioneering figure in reggae and dancehall. Known for his distinctive vocal style, blending traditional reggae with a singjay delivery (a mix of singing and DJing), he gained fame in the late 1970s and 1980s. His eccentric stage name was inspired by a losing racehorse he frequently bet on.

Eek-A-Mouse’s sound is characterized by quirky, humorous lyrics and unique vocal effects like his signature “biddy beng beng.” Hits like “Wa-Do-Dem” and “Ganja Smuggling” brought him international recognition.
