On October 3rd, more than half a century of reggae legacy will be on stage at De Helling in Utrecht. They get a visit from The Pioneers in Utrecht – a stage name that doesn’t lie to a letter. When reggae started to take off at the end of the sixties, they were already there. With their unique sound – somewhere between reggae, rocksteady and soul – the trio scored hits that have easily stood the test of time, and left a lasting mark on the genre.
These legends in the game take you on a groovy journey through time to the big bang of reggae. A journey that once started on the streets of Kingston, Jamaica, where Sydney Roy ‘Luddy’ Crooks started singing in street corner groups. Now – some sixty years later – The Pioneers bring the street corner feeling to sold-out music venues all over the world. Jump into the sun-drenched time capsule of The Pioneers and let your soul dance to Long Shot Kick the Bucket, Let Your yes Be yes and all those other classics!
Support: Boss Capone & Patsy
Speaking of legends: the support act is not the least either! You know Boss Capone as the bandleader of Dutch reggae pride The Upsessions. Renske ‘Patsy’ de Boer was the frontwoman of Mr. Wallace and the Originators. This royal couple of the Dutch reggae scene finds each other in a unique cocktail of old-school reggae and ska. Together with DJ Miss Maggs, they will warm up our room to Caribbean temperatures.
